CivilContractors.ca · the public registry
Civil contractors, on the record.
Canadian civil contractors listed from public contract awards, not paid placements. See who has built roads, bridges, wharves and water systems for public owners, what they won and when.
How it works
A record, not a review
Every firm here is here because a public owner awarded it a civil contract and published the award. Nobody pays to be listed and nobody is ranked by opinion.
A public owner awards a contract
Federal departments publish construction awards on CanadaBuys with the contractor’s legal name, the value and the date.
Awards become firm records
We group awards by firm, sort them by type of work and show every contract behind a record. People trading under their own name are left out.
You check before you hire
A record shows what a firm has built for public owners. It is not a licence, insurance or safety check. Use the five checks below.

By province
Where the firms are based
Tiles show where each firm’s head office is, not where it works: many of these contractors build across the country. Darker tiles have more firms.
Before you hire
Five checks for any civil contractor
A strong award record is a good start. These checks cover what a record cannot tell you.
Workers’ compensation
Ask for a current clearance letter from the provincial workers’ compensation board confirming the contractor’s account is in good standing.
Insurance
Get a certificate of commercial general liability insurance with limits that suit the job, naming you where your contract requires it.
Bonding
On larger work, ask whether the firm can provide bid and performance bonds from a surety. How bonds work →
Safety program
Ask for the written safety program and, if you require one, a Certificate of Recognition from the provincial safety association.
Comparable work
Ask for three jobs like yours and call the owners. The record here shows public work; private references fill in the rest.
For contractors
Your record is public work
Win public work and you appear. If a record is wrong or incomplete, tell us and we will check it against the award notices.
